People of Devon neighborhood, along with artist Indira Freitas Johnson, designed and painted a mural at the Republic Bank of Chicago, representing their idea of a community. Through a month-long process of ideating and brainstorming in several workshops, community members shared their ideas, exploring words, symbols, and colors that capture the essence of Devon. Translating their ideas into the mural, the project culminated into the creation of a unique visual language, reflective of Devon’s multicultural community. Interspersed with several conversations, food breaks, and painting sessions, the project brought together people from various cultural backgrounds and age-groups onto one platform.
